Our wonderful team of community and veterans have done plenty of service projects with other fiduciaries, such as Northeast Houston Redevelopment Council, but for our debut, as United In Services Coalition, we wanted our debut project to start off with a BANG!
This project gave us the opportunity to revitalize some areas of McGowen Elementary for the teachers, as well as for the students. We had the opportunity to revitalize the teachers' lounge, teachers' work room, and their kitchenette stations. We brought in new furniture and added in beautiful art to motivate the teachers and help build their morale.
Along with beautifying the indoor spaces, we were able to tackle some of the outdoors too! We built two additional raised garden beds that will not only be aesthetically pleasing, but will provide an opportunity for the students of McGowen Elementary to have a hands-on learning experience by planting vegetables.
The refurbished Butterfly Garden will bring a sense of peace and a space for teachers to rejuvenate as butterflies will gravitate to the beautiful flowers.
Our debut as United In Services Coalition was a sweet success on a day of remembrance that always lives on in our hearts, 9/11. We hope McGowen Elementary staff and students feel the impact of the heart and soul we put into their spaces each day.
