Green Hearts, United Hands: Celebrating Earth Day

UISC had the opportunity to support the Northeast Houston Redevelopment Council in their Earth Day celebration with vibrant festivities held in Kashmere Gardens. An engaging roster of activities included a seed planting demonstration, a bike raffle, a community garden project, and an exciting smoothie bike. Volunteers seized the opportunity to participate in these activities, helping to foster sustainability and heighten environmental awareness.

PVAMU College of Agriculture representatives enriched the Earth Day event with interactive classes that highlighted the critical roles of pollination and reducing our carbon footprints. Attendees dove hands-on into the world of plants especially pollinators, personalizing planters and taking home their own pollinator plants, enriched with newfound knowledge.

The Fit for Food segment allowed participants to experience the thrill of producing their own delicious whole food smoothies, combining exercise and the generation of vital energy, into delightful smoothies made with strawberries, bananas, spinach, and honey. Delicious!

As we celebrated community and the Earth, this remarkable day concluded with the raffle of a custom rain collection barrel, and bike give away symbolizing our ongoing commitment to sustainability, wellness, and clean energy. It was truly a wonderful day.
